Research Assistant (posted 08/18/08)
A full-time research assistant position is available in structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. The research focus of this group is brain hemorrhage, which is a major cause of death and disability in the United States. We seek to understand what determines the risk of developing a brain hemorrhage as well as the consequences suffered after the hemorrhage occurs. The research assistant position will focus on the application of structural and functional image analysis procedures in the study of brain aging and neurological diseases. Other tasks include participant scanning, data organization, statistical analysis, and additional lab duties.
Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, and some prior research experience is preferred. Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Matlab would be extremely useful. This individual will be working with patients, so excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are required. A two year commitment is required. This is an excellent position for a recent college graduate who wants to spend two or more years in a research setting before going on to graduate or medical school. All candidates should be willing to learn how to use our structural and functional image analysis software: http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu

Postdoctoral Position in Interventional MRI and Image Guided Therapy (posted 08/18/08)
The Biomaterials Laboratory of the Martinos Center has an immediate
postdoctoral opening in a two-year NIH-funded project to develop methods
in MRI-guided tumor ablation in which the scanner provides the ablation
energy. The project involves numerical simulation of RF electric and
magnetic fields and tissue heating effects, specialized RF coil
development, and pulse sequence design.
The postdoctoral fellow will create numerical simulations of RF electric and magnetic fields and tissue heating effects with our commercial simulation software, design and test specialized RF coils and devices, and develop pulse sequences for Siemens MR scanners. The fellow will carry out heating studies on phantoms and tissue specimens, and in the second year on live animals. The project is a collaborative effort with Robin Medical, Inc., a medical device company.
Requirements: Candidates must have a Ph.D., a solid background in MR physics or engineering, as well as expertise in electronics, software, pulse sequence development and/or RF coil design.
Contact: Feel free to phone or email for more information about the position. If you wish to be considered, please send a CV and arrange for three letters of recommendation (emailed pdf is acceptable) to:

Responsibilities: The candidate should have expertise in the image reconstruction and data analysis for multi-modality imaging. Specific experience in the analysis of diffuse optical tomography data, for cancer or brain functional imaging applications, is desired. The experience of performing research and analysis using structural image to guide functional image analysis is a plus. A demonstrated track record of successfully working in a multidisciplinary peer group, especially one including clinical research will be favorably considered. The successful candidate is expected to establish an extramurally funded, independent research program, working collaboratively with other investigators at the Martinos Center, and elsewhere at MGH, Harvard and MIT.
Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD degree in biomedical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or other computationally oriented field and at least two years postdoctoral experience, preferably involving biological data analysis.
Contact: Applicants should send (NOT EMAIL) the following: a letter of interest, a CV, and three letters of reference to Dr. David Boas, PhD, C/O Carol Barnstead, Athinoula A.
