    Research Fellow (posted 11/07/09)

A Research Fellow position is available at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Department of Radiology, Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School.

Responsibilities: Our multidisciplinary research group develops and utilizes non-invasive spatiotemporal brain imaging methods, combining fMRI, MEG, and EEG, to study human cognition. The incumbent will use fMRI/MEG/EEG estimates of event-related and oscillatory brain activations to investigate how the human brain represents sensory information and how sensory processes interact with attention /cognitive control.

Requirements: We seek for an outstanding candidate in the field of human visual (or auditory) attention and sensory processing, with a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field and a track record of high-quality scientific publications. Priority will be given to a qualified candidate with a strong background in fMRI, MEG, and/or EEG analysis techniques and their application to human cognitive neuroscience. A strong statistical/computational background and familiarity with linux/unix/matlab are essential. Prior experience in computational modeling and/or causality testing is a plus.

Contact: Please email the following items to Dr. Jyrki Ahveninen (jahveninen@partners.org): Cover Letter including description of previous research experience and statement of research goals/interests, CV with a publication list, and three letters of recommendation. Please use "fMRI/MEG/EEG Research Fellow" as the message title.

    Research Fellow (posted 10/12/09)

A full-time research fellow postion is available a the Masssachusetts General Hospital, Department of Radiology, Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.

Responsibilities: Manage/coordinate an NIH sponsored fMRI study on the effects of acupuncture on the functional networks of the brain. The fellow should be skillful in the application and development of methods for data analysis, including modeling and biostatistics. The fellow will relate the neuroimaging findings to a neurophysiological perspective, and be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The candidate should be comfortable with multi-tasks and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Requirements: A PhD is required, preferably in bioengineering, neurobiology or one of the related sciences. A strong background in biostatics and experience with fMRI will be highly desirable. The candidate should have an interest in alternative medicine, but training in acupuncture is not required. A two year committment is preferred. US citizenship, a Green Card or a current working visa is required.

Contact: Send a CV with relevant courses, a description of previous research experience, and a statement of research goals to Dr. Kathleen Hui, MD at hui@nmr.mgh.harvard.edu. Two letters of recommenation will be required.

    Research Fellow (posted 8/12/09)

Applicants are invited for a full-time Research Fellow position. Hours will be flexible in order to accommodate scanning time and deadlines for document submissions.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will be split between two projects. The first involves MRI scanning and data analysis for an NIH sponsored study of 100 first episode schizophrenia patients. The second involves MRI scanning and multimodal (MRI + PET) data analysis for an HHMI sponsored study of 64 healthy individuals. The fellow will become fluent in multimodal imaging analysis, specifically related to testing genetic hypotheses. S/he will be expected to present findings at national meetings and compose related manuscripts.

Requirements: A PhD degree is required, preferably in neuroscience, computer science, bioengineering, or related sciences. A strong computational/statistical background is essential. Experience with MRI analysis (especially with FreeSurfer/FS-FAST and/or SPM) and the Linux operating system is highly desirable, as is a working knowledge of genetics. Must be comfortable working with schizophrenia patients.

Contact: Please email Joshua Roffman, MD, jroffman@partners.org, each of the following items, preferably in a single file: (1) CV including GPA and a list of relevant courses; (2) description of previous research experience; (3) statement of research goals and interests; (4) three letters of recommendation.
