DESCRIPTION OF WORK / BIOSKETCH

In the Biomaterials Laboratory we study bone and synthetic biomaterials with conventional and solid state magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy. Among the areas of interest are the compositional characterization of bone during growth and maturation, and quantitative solid state MR imaging of bone mineral and matrix. We develop instrumentation and techniques for analysis of advanced engineering and other solid materials such as calcified tissues, polymers, ceramics and composites. Another area of interest is the development of intravascular MR coils for characterization of atherosclerotic plaque, and analysis of plaque composition with high field high resolution solid state NMR spectroscopy.
