DESCRIPTION OF WORK / BIOSKETCH
My main research topics include the autonomic nervous system, the nociceptive system, as well as pain-autonomic interactions, which I study using functional magnetic resonance imaging, electrophysiological methods and psychophysics. One focus is on imaging of the human brainstem, another one on research on the underlying mechanisms of acupuncture. I also like to rediscover forgotten knowledge in the older medical literature.
