DESCRIPTION OF WORK / BIOSKETCH

My research combines behavioral, patient-based, and functional neuroimaging approaches to investigate the cognitive neuroscience of human learning and memory. My primary research focus is in extending the study of human memory from item memory (i.e., the form of memory that provides the basis for remembering that a stimulus or event has occurred) to associative memory (i.e., the form of memory which represents relationships among items or informational elements). I am interested in understanding the cognitive and neural processes mediating associative memory in young adults and examining how reliance on these processes changes with healthy aging and neurological injury. Additionally, I am interested in discerning whether neural regions within the medial-temporal lobe make distinct contributions to human memory.
