Laptop Registration

In order to connect a laptop to any of the orange network jacks in the scanning bays, South Central or 2nd floor east, you must register it using this form.

Laptop Name (write 'none' if unknown or unnamed):    
Physical/MAC Address (see below):

Finding the physical/MAC address

The physical/MAC address is a hexadecimal string, with each octet separated by a dash or colon. An example address is "00:08:74:4C:7F:1D".

In Microsoft Windows, open a command window (start -> run -> 'cmd') and type:
  • getmac /V /FO list
  • Look for the physical address of the ethernet adapter
    NOT THE WIRELESS ADAPTER.
  • Here is a screen shot of what to look for.
  • You can copy the physical address by using 'edit -> mark -> copy.'
In Macintosh OSX find the Ethernet ID by opening the following
  • Apple -> System Preferences -> Network -> Built-in Ethernet -> Ethernet
  • Here is a screen shot of what to look for.
In a Linux terminal window, type:
  • /sbin/ifconfig | grep eth0
  • Look for the string after "Ethernet HWaddr"
