[Brainmap]: Sung-Hong Park, PhD- Blood vascular, blood flow, and blool oxygenation level dependent MRI

Friday, March 10, 2017 - 12:00 to 13:00

Abstract:

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides various methods for imaging anatomical, physiological, and functional information of blood vessels in our body noninvasively. In this seminar, some new approaches to these imaging modalities will be introduced. The new approaches include (i) acquisition of time-of-flight MR angiogram and blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) MR venogram (often called susceptibility-weighted Imaging, SWI) simultaneously with minimal impacts on the image quality to each other, (ii) improving arterial spin labeling perfusion MRI with distal control schemes, and (iii) BOLD–based anatomical and functional MRI at high field of 9.4T using gradient recalled echo and balanced steady state free precession. Applications of compressed sensing algorithms to these imaging methods will be introduced. Images from humans and animals at various field strengths (3T - 9.4T) will be demonstrated and potential applications of these imaging methods for clinical diagnosis will be discussed.

About the Speaker:

Dr Park has worked on MRI pulse sequence development and image processing / analysis for more than 18 years in academia and industry. These experiences include technical developments and their clinical / physiological applications for both human and animal researches, with special emphasis on MR imaging of brain vasculature, blood perfusion, chemical exchanges, and their applications to functional and clinical studies including stroke and cancer
