There was a lot to do as Senior Systems Programmer. Some of the high lights are as follows.
  • Staff supervision and task assignment.
  • Hardware and software acquisition.
  • Planning and implementating the first collapsed back bone network at NU.
  • Assisting in cleaning up the old academic network and helping to make it functional.
  • Early on I was the Internet, NEARnet, NSFNET, CSNET, and BITNET information and technical liaison as well as Internet zone and security contact.
  • The first e-mail architecture/implementation at Northeastern between departments and university e-mail postmaster.
  • Implementing the first campus USENET news service.
  • Network trouble shooting and standards adherence.
  • First integration of NU on to the Internet via the NFS sponsored JvNCnet.
  • First DNS implementation on campus.
  • First network security person on campus.
  • INGRES DBA
  • INGRES programmer
  • User assistance.
  • Growth and capacity planning.
  • Training new personnel.
  • System migration from three separate VAX 11/780’s to a VAXCluster.
