My research emphasizes developing ultrahigh-field, multi-modal fMRI technologies to directly map brain circuit dynamics with high spatiotemporal specificity, bridging vascular, glial, and neuronal mechanisms underlying both hemodynamic and sodium (Na)-based functional MRI signals. I integrate advanced MRI method development (including single-vessel and laminar fMRI), optical/electrophysiological recordings, and machine learning to decode brain-state fluctuations and identify mechanistic biomarkers in models of brain injury and coma, psychiatric brain disorders, and neurodegeneration (e.g., Alzheimers disease), with the long-term goal of enabling quantitative monitoring and prediction of functional recovery.
