work flows

Although fastmap is a GUI-based application, effort has been made to simplify and streamline routine tasks; this effort is ongoing and always subject to modification, basically depending upon the experience of the developer but subject to suggestions by users.

Examples of streamlining routine work flows includes the use of memorized items. Rather than specify an image orientation on the command line each time, this information is remembered from the last use of the application. Use “help —> memorized items” to see the list of items that are saved by the program.

Another simplification is the use of multi-subject templates, also memorized by the application. Rather than enter a template file, a list of user-defined regions of interest, and potentially an atlas on the command line each time, one can load all these items within the program by selecting an anatomical ID or by simply using “control-t” to recall the last template directory that was used.

Re-mapping and re-processing also are common tasks. One may decide to change the level of smoothing, to test a partial volume correction for PET, or to modify a time-series analysis model. “Batch” options, which can be run either with out without suppression the GUI, enabled these possibilities.
